"The day was August 1, the year 1838 and the event, Emancipation from Slavery. Tears of joy flowed incessantly, while shouts of freedom rang from the mountain tops and the plains, from the men, women and children, who had learnt that they were finally free of the oppressive social and economic system in which they were treated as less than human.On August 1, 1834, all slaves were legally declared free, however, "real" freedom only came in 1838."

What a wonderful statue, Ann. A great, truly great tribute to that wonderful day.
Hello Ann,
Great picture, ad thanks for sharing this.
Hi Ann!
It's not that I didn't get the message from the post... but I zoomed right between the statues and saw Viennese Pastry store. That was a mainstay in my youth!!
Carry on.
Looking at the statue makes me so emotional. Thanks for the rememberance Ann.
lol @ nix. I know!! I know.
Cynthia, I actually like these statues a lot. I have no idea who the sculptor is. That's something I need to check.
dale and jilly, thanks for stopping by ladies. I sure appreciate it.
Wonderful explanation Ann, and Happy Emancipation Day!
It hurts thinking how cruel man can be to fellow humans.
P.S.;
Nix' sharp eyes are amazing! I would have never noticed. ;-)
I missed the early morning march here in Barbados. So I walked to an old village (Eady Village) and took quite a few pictures. I was trying to emancipate my mind.
